Earlier this month, we had the wonderful opportunity to have our Kenyan staff and teachers join us here in the US for some time training, strategizing, and community-building. This is the first time our team has been together on this side of the globe, and the longer-than-usual holiday break (you can read more in our post from September 13, 2016) provided us with the time necessary to rest and reset for the 2017 school year. We packed a lot in during their visit. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Teacher training on Canopy Life’s core teaching strategies.
  • Organizational planning focused on budgets, program improvements, and scheduling.
  • Visiting local schools and organizations to observe their facilities and teaching methods.
  • Learning and implementing a new form of lesson plans.
  • An evening focused on connecting with child sponsors to share about the individual students they sponsor and the school as a whole.
  • A dinner and worship time centered around loving on donors and thanking them for their investment.
  • Participating in leadership development at the Leaders Lyceum.
  • Learning more about design thinking with our partner school Darlington Academy.
  • Engaging in team building and field trip-style activities
  • Expanding our worldview and cross-cultural empathy by learning more about our US partners.

Thank you to all of our Atlanta-based partners, supporters, and friends who helped make this an invaluable experience, and to our staff for investing a portion of their holiday away from family and home, in order to learn and develop as a team. We’re so thankful for the time to evaluate the past year and to dream about what’s next. Check out below for a few snapshots from our time together:
