This month marks the one year anniversary of my husband’s and my commitment to sponsor our Canopy Life student Rose. Tim and I were initially drawn to Canopy Life’s Child Sponsorship program because of how it cuts through the white noise of Facebook and social media, and uses technology to facilitate global connections. We have seen time and time again the power of multiple mentors in the life of a child, and that is why we love that Canopy Life goes beyond a simple one-to-one sponsorship program. Each student has four sponsors and one global mentor, who surround the child as a sponsor family.
Now in 5th grade, Rose has brought so much joy to our lives. Her picture hangs on our refrigerator and we love telling our friends stories about how she is growing and learning. One of our favorite moments in getting to know Rose was the day we had the opportunity to talk with her over Skype. At the end of the conversation, she disappeared for a moment, and quickly returned with four of her classmates. She was giddy to introduce us to her friends. As we see Rose’s big smile in pictures on Canopy Life’s Instagram and Facebook, she is almost always surrounded by other students.
Seeing the way Canopy Life students grow and learn through interacting with their peers makes us thrilled to hear that Canopy Life added an additional 10 students to the Academy this year. These students are all in 4th grade, and as full of energy and potential as their 5th grade counterparts. These students are currently seeking sponsor families to join them in their journey at Canopy Life.
