We want to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who participated in Saturday’s GeneroCity Market. From the steady flow of neighbors attending the Alpharetta Farmers Market to the sunshiny weather, the event was the celebration of charitable community we had envisioned.
Walking into the Market, shoppers were greeted by the big smile of Lucy, a pint-sized Kenyan, who was offering visitors chai as a “taste of Kenya.” The ladies at Clothe Your Neighbor as Yourself raised the hipness of the crowd by decking out kids and adults alike in CYNY temporary tattoos, and Canopy Life cooled down the masses with popsicles.
As people looped around the parking lot, many saw the familiar faces of friends whose organizations they have partnered or volunteered with in the past. Many more were introduced to organizations they didn’t know existed. Several times, we heard people say things like, “I’m so glad to know there is a local group addressing this need,” and “How can I get involved?”
On the other side of the parking lot, shoppers meandered through the GeneroCity Market thrift-ique. It was fun hearing people’s stories about how they had found exactly what they were looking for, and watching the sea of furniture thin as items were loaded into vehicles to find their second chance in a new home.
Through GeneroCity Market, we had the subtle opportunity to show others that Atlanta is a city that loves others. With our unique missions, all of our organizations are drawn together by a belief that every individual is created in the image of God and deserves the compassion and care Jesus called us to give others.
Thank you again to those of you who donated, shopped, volunteered, promoted, and organized GeneroCity Market. It is through you that Atlanta is building a reputation for being a Generous City.
Taking place on May 2, GeneroCity Market was a justice fair and outdoor thrift-ique hosted by 9 Atlanta-based nonprofits: The 410 Bridge, Canopy Life, Choose to Invest, Clothe Your Neighbor as Yourself, Daraja Choir, Just One Africa, Kazi Market, Kula Project, and Wellspring Living.
