February was full of new experiences. It’s also a month where we settle into the rhythm of the school term, tackle exciting projects, and celebrate all that God is doing in and through our students. From spiritual growth to hands-on learning, here’s what’s been happening on campus!

Homelife: Growing in Character and Community

Our students are thriving! Not only are they physically healthy, but most have already reached their personal and academic goals for the term—an incredible achievement.

Beyond academics, we’ve been focusing on building character. This month, the students have been challenged to grow in resilience, hope, confidence, and empathy. And they’ve been stepping up! Whether it’s taking on new responsibilities, supporting each other through challenges, or simply being warm and respectful, we’re seeing some beautiful growth.

In group therapy and devotions, topics have included conflict resolution, respect, empathy, and stress management. Emotionally, many students are learning how to regulate their feelings and take charge of their emotions—a big step toward maturity!

And of course, February wouldn’t be complete without birthdays. We celebrated casually throughout the month…and by casually, we mean some lighthearted birthday shenanigans, like “birthday washings” (see photo below). We have plans for a bigger party at the end of the term. It’s always a joy to mark another year of life together!

Spiritual Life: Growing into Christ’s Fullness

This term, our students are diving into a Bible study guide called Growing into Christ’s Fullness. In small groups, they discuss topics throughout the week and come together on Wednesdays for a larger review. They’re not just reading about faith—they’re learning to live it out!

One student, Leticia, had a powerful experience this term. She’s been reflecting deeply on her purpose, and after a lesson on The Purpose of Life, she shared with her peers that she feels called to intercede for God’s people and teach His Word. Moments like these remind us why spiritual growth is such a core part of Canopy Life.

Our Sunday services have also leveled up! We’ve added a drum set and keyboard, bringing new energy to worship. The students love it so much that some have started learning to play the instruments, with training sessions happening every Sunday morning after service.

This month’s teaching themes included understanding and honoring parents, fasting, sin, and God’s grace. Each topic sparked deep discussions, helping students reflect on their relationship with God and others.

Academics: Hands-On Learning & Big goals

The academic program kicked off strong this term! Students began with a focus on Career Pathways in Life Skills and recently took a Continuous Assessment Test to prepare for upcoming evaluations. Our Grade 9 students are also gearing up for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment, happening later this year.

Our teachers participated in a training focused on curriculum mapping, core teaching strategies, and exam analysis. It was a valuable time to reflect on the first half of the term and plan for continued growth.

Hands-on learning is always a favorite at Canopy Life, and February was full of it! In Science, Grade 9 students explored the internal structure of leaves under a microscope—a fun and engaging way to deepen their understanding. Meanwhile, Creative Arts students learned weaving, which kept their hands (and imaginations) busy.

Perhaps one of the biggest highlights? Taekwondo! Our students are now training in this martial art, and it’s already improving their concentration and problem-solving skills.

Innovation Update: Creating Solutions for Real World Problems

Innovation is at the heart of Canopy Life, and our students are proving that creativity knows no limits!

  • Grade 8 students are getting hands-on with power tools, learning to cut, drill, and screw through wood.
  • Grade 9 students are brainstorming tech-based solutions for real-world problems. Some of their ideas include:
    • An app to remind patients when to take their medication
    • A system to translate text messages into local languages for people who struggle with English

This month’s Innovation focus areas were Woodwork for Grade 8 and Technopreneurship for Grade 9. The future is bright with these young problem-solvers at work!

Sponsorship and Community Celebrations

February was full of moments that reminded us how strong our Canopy Life community is.

Sponsor Boxes: Students received gifts from their sponsors, played games, and spent time in prayer for the entire Canopy Life family.

Alumni Career Training: Alumni received guidance on career options, with insights into global trends like nursing, agribusiness, and real estate management.

10-Year Anniversary Celebration: This year marks 10 years of Canopy Life! We took time to celebrate our journey, our growth, and our very first alumni cohort.

  • Check out this video taken during the celebration. It was made by Kenyans for our Kenyan staff to commemorate our 10th anniversary celebration.

PRAYER REQUESTS

We are deeply grateful that all students returned safely from their midterm break. Please join us in thanking God for their protection!
