We believe that leadership and mentorship play a crucial role in shaping the future of ourstudents. This truth is beautifully reflected in the journey of Mercy, a 17-year-old graduating senior from Itumbule Village. Mercy’s dream is to change the face of education in Kenya, and her inspiration comes from the love and mentorship of Teacher Margaret, who has walked with her since Grade 4.
“Teacher Margaret has been my mentor and my best friend. I admire everything about her—her godly life, her spiritual walk, and the way she motivates me to become who God wants me to be. She’s helped me make good decisions, stay focused on my education, and she has made me feel loved,” says Mercy.
Now, Mercy is determined to become a teacher herself, hoping to create a more nurturing and positive environment for students in Kenya. “I want to be a friendly teacher, one who mentors students just like I’ve been mentored at Canopy Life. I want to change the mentality of students and society in Kenya and maybe one day even own my own school.”
