Campus has been teeming with life this past month, from hosting a team from the U.S to beginning new projects, and sitting for mid-term exams! Check out the update below for what happened around campus in June!

HOMELIFE UPDATE

This month, the Homelife Department has been busy at work with numerous lessons that have been making a significant impact on the students. We’ve been focused specifically on developing character and empathy, and are pleased with the positive growth and understanding the students are demonstrating in light of what we’re teaching them!

We had a team from the U.S visit campus which created a lot if excitement amongst the students and staff. We did some beadwork for our visitors and and presented them with Maasai shukas as farewell tokens!

Additionally, the students are making excellent progress with the annual magazine that we publish, which is shaping up very well. We held a Mothers’ Seminar with our students’ moms, and it was a lovely experience for all involved.

All in all, our Homelife at Canopy Life is thriving!

SPIRITUAL UPDATES FROM KENYA

This past month, the Spiritual Department has been dedicated to group mentorship for both 7th and 8th grade students. We conducted mentorship lessons and bible studies using the guide “Life in His Name”, based on the book of John.

During our group mentorship, we focused on important values such as, patience, courage, and integrity. Through the “Life in His Name” guide, we explored several studies, including: The Just Judge, Bread of Life, Light of the World, The Good Shepherd, The Way, the Truth, and the Life. We have two more studies to complete for the bible study sessions, but the students are really enjoying the content as well as the group format.

ACADEMIC UPDATES

The Academic Department has been very active with a variety of projects and
activities for our Canopy Life students. We organized games between students and staff members to encourage teamwork and relaxation, stressing the importance of both of those things in our everyday lives. The relaxation lesson was particularly helpful as our students sat for their mid-term exams to assess their academic progress this month.

We started an agricultural project in June, planting sweet potatoes and other crops, to teach students about sustainable farming practices! In Home Science, students learned how to backstitch as part of their tailoring lessons, and we also focused extensively on beadwork and art, as we prepared for the U.S team to visit.

INNOVATION UPDATES

This term, we continued our work from the previous term on leatherwork. Students created individual leather pouches, enhancing their skills in crafting and design. Additionally, as a group, they made matching faux leather mats and coaster sets, which fostered collaboration and creativity!

PRAYER REQUESTS

  • Pray for the students and their families as they return to campus from their mid-term break.

Will you give to our Building Brave Campaign?

Your gift, be it $5 or $50,000 helps us expand our campus to double our student population and keep our current 7th grade students on our campus through their high school year.
