Whether you’re new to the Canopy Life family or you’ve traveled all the way to Kenya with us, we would like to take a moment to reintroduce our Kenyan Staff, starting with Stephen Kimani and Miriam Mbugua!
Meet our Campus Director: Stephen Kimani
Meet Stephen Kimani! Stephen has been a member of the Canopy Life Kenya Staff since the very beginning when Canopy Life was first started in 2015. He served as the residential Housefather to the students as well as the Operations Coordinator before officially taking on the role of Operations Director in 2019. In 2021, Stephen was promoted to the position of Campus Director! He has a Bachelors’ degree in Economics and Business Administration from Kenyatta University.
His very first Job was with Faulu Advisory Services, as a business advisor. He then proceeded to join the National Council of Churches of Kenya as a Program Manager where he worked for 3 years.
Some fun things you may not know about Stephen…
- Stephen is married and has 2 children, ages 11 and 7
- One of his hobbies outside of work is playing darts
- He travels roughly 10 Kilometers one-way to work every day (6 miles)
- His favorite things about working at Canopy Life is worshiping together as a staff with the students and the spiritual nourishment he receives on campus
- When we asked Stephen for one fun fact that people may not know about him, he said, “Weddings bore me… like after the couple exchanges their vows, why do I have to hang around???”
Meet our Academic Director: Miriam Mbugua
Meet Miriam Mbugua! Miriam joined the Canopy Life Kenya staff in 2022 as the Academic Director. She has a Bachelors degree in Education from St. Pauls University and has over twenty years working experience in the field of education. Prior to joining Canopy Life, Miriam was the CBC resident expert for CITAM Schools. She is a curriculum development expert and was instrumental in the development of the Kenya Government Training Manual on CBC. Miriam has successfully offered trainings on competency based curriculum (CBC) to numerous primary schools around Nairobi.
Some fun things you may not know about Miriam…
- Miriam is married and has two boys, ages 17 and 12
- When she’s not working at Canopy Life, her hobby is writing and authoring books
- She travels 36 KM one way to get to Canopy Life everyday (roughly 22 miles)
- Her favorite thing about working at Canopy Life is the classroom interaction with the students as well as the worship sessions every Wednesday
- When we asked Miriam what’s one fun fact people may not know about her, she said, “I love watching short inspirational movies!”
We hope you enjoyed learning a bit more about two of our directors in Kenya. They are not only incredible people with great hearts, but they are brilliant and are leading Canopy Life towards a very bright future with their skills and giftings.
