As we step into a new month, take a look at all of the awesome things our students and staff have been working on at Canopy Life!
HOMELIFE UPDATE
This past month, the Homelife Department was busy with numerous programs that made significant positive impacts on the students. Our focus on healing trauma and wounds continues, and we are pleased with the positive growth and understanding the students are demonstrating. Both our Grade 7 and Grade 8 students are currently reading a book called, Healing trauma, which is all about dealing with our past wounds and finding healing as we move forward from them.
We are also on the final lap of production on our very first Canopy Life magazine! Our hope is to have it produced by mid-October, be on the lookout for it! Lastly, our students recently received their sponsor boxes, and as you can imagine, they were thrilled to see what all of our incredible sponsors sent to encourage and love on them.
SPIRITUAL UPDATES FROM KENYA
The Spiritual Department has been dedicated to group mentorship for both our 7th and 8th grade students. We’re continuing to hold mentorship lessons and bible studies using a number of different books and resources.
The students and staff recently completed the book “Life in His Name”, and are now delving deeper into building up their own personal gifts, especially in bible exposition. In addition to this, we’re tackling topics that we deem crucial for this teenage stage they’re in, specifically what it looks like to live a godly life as a teen.
ACADEMIC UPDATES
Our Academic Department has a variety of different projects and activities in the works currently. This past month, they organized game initiatives for our students who play football and netball. Every Wednesday and Saturday, we brought in different coaches to teach them and refine their skills in these sports. We believe this initiative is important, especially for students who are interested in want to explore sports as a full-time career.
Last month, our students also spent quite a bit of time and energy preparing for their upcoming exams. We ask for your prayer over all of our students for their focus and determination as they sit for these exams, most importantly, that they would feel and know God’s hand is over them and He has a plan for each of them, regardless of their test scores.
INNOVATION UPDATES
Our Grade 7 students have been introduced to the world of photography, learning both the technical aspects and the creative side of it! The key objectives for the photography program include:
- Understanding the basics of camera functions, such as focus, lighting, and angles.
- Developing a keen eye for detail and composition to tell compelling stories through images.
- Encouraging self-expression through visual arts and improving their confidence in creative work.
For our Grade 8 students, their focus has been on financial literacy and introduction to money management, including budgeting and saving. This program has included:
- Understanding basic financial concepts such as income, expenses, and profit.
- Learning the importance of smart spending, the value of investments, and long-term financial planning.
- And the power of budgeting and saving.
Joint Projects: Abacus and Robotics
Both grades have also come together for two exciting, hands-on projects: Abacus and Robotics!
During Abacus, students are learning how to use the abacus, which helps them improve their mental math abilities and strengthens their understanding of basic arithmetic. This activity is crucial in enhancing cognitive abilities and numerical problem-solving.
During our robotics sessions, the students are working on building simple robots and learning the basics of programming. This project develops their skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), while also fostering teamwork and innovation!
