Last week, Canopy Life celebrated our second birthday! As we enter our toddler years, we’re reflecting on all the ways God has worked in and through our students and staff since our doors opened in January 2015. There have been so many great moments, but we want to share just some of the highlights with you. We wouldn’t necessarily say these photos are academically-minded, but they sure do capture all of the growth and fun that have been taking place!
January 2015: Welcomed our first students to the school—ten kiddos made up our inaugural Class 4.
Summer 2015: Our first team came to visit from the United States.
July 2015: With the help of our summer team members, students put on their first play, Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters.
September 2015: Teacher Pip arrived! Design Thinking and Deep Roots classes really started cranking!
October 2015: Students got all dressed up and went to see a stage production of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was their first time seeing a play—complete with a live orchestra and real animals on stage!
November 2015: Field trip to the Animal Orphanage in Nairobi
November 2015: Canopy Life’s class of 2023 wrapped up their first year of classes together. Look at how much they grew in just eleven months!
January 2016: A new group of Class 4 started at Canopy Life. Our Class 5 students were quick to welcome their younger brothers and sisters to the family.
February 2016: We introduced Kenturns to Canopy Life. Kenturns help with day-to-day work around the school and house, assist in Design Thinking and Deep Roots classes, monitor homework and recess times, and are all-around the best older brothers and sisters a kid could ask for!
March 2016: In Deep Roots, the kids began to learn to tap dance. The created the perfect tappity-tap noise by taping shillings to the bottoms of their shoes.
June 2016: Christi brought her new husband Joe to meet the kids and spend time at Canopy Life. She also brought her friends Tim, Steph, and Brynn as part of the Summer Team.
October 2016: Canopy Life went ice skating, and even teachers Alice, Margaret, and Joseck got in on the fun!
Devember 2016: Our Kenyan staff came to visit the United States for training, team building, and connecting with our American support team.
January 2017: Now beginning our third year of classes, we just welcomed four new students to our Class 6 group. We’re praising God for how he has blessed us both as individuals and as a school, and we can’t wait to see what the year ahead holds!
