Post by summer team member Cindy Poundstone.
On January 9 of this year, the world lost a champion of imagination. Our friend Angie left this world to live everlasting life with Jesus. In her honor, friends and family contributed to Canopy Life Academy, allowing her legacy to live on in ways we will not be able to measure.
Webster’s defines imagination as creative ability, resourcefulness, and having an active mind. Webster could have just put a picture of Angie on this page! Thanks to those who believed in Angie and the love she felt for the vision of Canopy Life, this definition and Angie’s legacy have collided in a classroom in Kenya.
Members of our two summer trips to Canopy Life Academy brought materials and ideas to transform a blank space into a wonderland of thinking, creativity and possibilities. A local carpenter constructed bookshelves and a storage bench while a seamstress transformed foam cushions into brightly colored seating. Team members partnered with the students to paint canvas works, construct a tree indoors, give color to window curtains, and create sparkle and light to transform an ordinary room into a one of a kind place to dream with their Creator.
In the Imagination Room, students will go to magical places in the books they read. Worlds will unfold in the puppets shows they create. Their imaginations will burst out of this room and change lives in the communities of these students.
Imagination. It is too big for one room, but it is a beautiful, whimsical place to start.
