This month (January 17th to be exact), Canopy Life quietly crosses a beautiful milestone, 11 years of empowering vulnerable Kenyan children to become godly, innovative leaders. After last year’s unforgettable 10-year celebration and first graduation, this anniversary feels different. Less about the fanfare, and more about the steady, faithful steps God continues to guide. Less fireworks, more foundation. Less looking back, more looking forward.
And in many ways, this year marks not an anniversary alone but the beginning of Canopy Life’s second decade — a new season of growth, maturity, and deepening impact.
2025: A Year of Strengthening and Becoming
Even in a year of transition, God allowed Canopy Life to see remarkable progress.
It’s a glimpse of the work God is doing through the Canopy Life community, where education in Kenya meets belonging, care, and the formation of leaders.
Here are a few highlights:
Campus Expansion Launched
After years of prayer and planning — and more than a few unexpected permitting delays — construction on our next phase officially launched this year. This expansion will open the door for more students to join our community. It will pave the way for the launch of residential high school programs this spring.
Our donors made this possible. Your faithfulness kept us encouraged during repeated delays, and your generosity is helping build a campus that will serve children for generations. We are on track to complete the expansion in early 2026, stepping into the next decade with greater capacity and strong, steady foundations.
Strengthening U.S. Leadership
2025 brought key leadership hires in the United States, including a Chief Operating Officer and Development Director. These roles mark a critical step in Canopy Life’s evolution, moving from a vision-driven startup into a mature, sustainable organization. They are creating structures that will carry us into the future.
These leaders are already helping us develop clarity, alignment, and long-term strategy so we can grow with wisdom and excellence.
A Historic Year for Our Students
This year was filled with milestones for our students:
- We celebrated our first full-class graduation ceremony, a moment more than a decade in the making.
- Additional seniors completed their national exams.
- A cohort of 16 students sat their high school competency exams and performed exceptionally. Most scored in the “Exceeding Expectations” or high “Meeting Expectations” mastery categories under Kenya’s CBC system.
For many of these students, their achievements represent academic success. They also reflect healing, confidence, and the leadership potential that God is cultivating within them.
The Kenya-to-U.S. Tour
In November, several students and staff traveled to the U.S. for a multi-stop tour. This tour allowed donors, partners, and friends to experience the heart of Canopy Life firsthand. Their presence sparked joy and strengthened relationships wherever they went. Moments shared around tables, in conversations, and in worship reminded us that we are part of something much bigger than ourselves, a global community learning from one another.
Looking Ahead: Upward and Inward
We find ourselves in a tender, exciting in-between.
Some transitions are still underway. Some foundations are still being laid. But every sign points upward and inward, toward deeper alignment, stronger leadership. They point to greater capacity to serve the next generation of Kenyan innovators, as we continue cultivating agents of transformation within the context of education in Kenya.
As we enter our second decade, we carry the same posture that has marked Canopy Life from the beginning:
open hands, expectant hearts, and a deep belief that God’s vision for these children is bigger than anything we can imagine.
